Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about ways to stay comfortable when the temperature rises. Prescott Air Conditioning shares tips on some energy-efficient ways to keep your Prescott home cool in the hotter months.

Have an air conditioning tune-up
Have your unit professionally inspected and cleaned to keep it running effectively.

Check your filters
Make sure you change your filters every one to two months to make sure they aren’t full of air-flow preventing debris.

Add insulation
Insulation not only keeps your house warmer in the winter, but also keeps things cooler in the summer.

Keep the sun out
Block out the sun with curtains, shades, and trees. Avoid having the sun shining directly into your house during peak sunlight hours.

Use a ceiling fan
A nice breeze from your ceiling fan is much faster at cooling off a room than an air conditioning unit. Avoid using the ventilating fans in your bathroom and kitchen, though, as these can pull cool air out of your house!

Let the air flow
Open your windows during the cooler parts of the day so that you can turn your air conditioning off completely during the night. You may enjoy better sleep knowing that at least eight hours of the day your unit won’t be adding to your energy costs.

Dial up the thermostat
Turn up the temperature by just a few degrees during the day to save energy. When you’re away from the house, you can turn it up a little bit more.

Don’t crank the air conditioner
No matter how cold you set the thermostat to, the air conditioning unit needs time to cool down your house. Overworking your unit and setting it too far below the manufacturer’s recommendations can actually damage it!
