Last summer I was called out as a second opinion on 38 condemned residential air conditioners, aka condensing units. All 38 customers were told they needed new units or systems. I was able to repair 34 of the 38 previously "condemned" units, most repairs averaging from $150-$600! (We have similar results with gas heaters & furnaces). The other four units were dead, I can't fix dead! Average life expectancy of your outdoor unit is about 14 years. Average life expectancy of your furnace is 20 years +. (Assuming they have been properly maintained & serviced). I have repaired 28 year old units when others would or could not!
